What other gear should I have in my SOLO travel bag?

Simple question: I am flying a #3DR Solo and with a gimbal. I use the travel case, have no problems getting it on the airplane etc. As I prep for a couple of major trips, wondering...

What I wanted to ask other users, what other gear do you travel with?

What complimentary tech do you carry?

I have added power adapters for other locales, a back-up GoPro battery, etc. Any other ideas?

I love carrying a battery pack to charge my phone. The solo app seems to kill my battery

my favorite bag accessories
  • Tascam audio recorder. (being able to add ambient audio to video is cool)
  • Filters
  • Gimbal Balance Kit (Imp concepts)
  • Rubber bands (helps if you get stuck props)
  • Alpha Antennas
  • FAA registration papers
  • 3Dr screw driver
  • Multi-tool (traveling with that might be a problem)
  • Cell phone repair kit
  • Set of small metric hex wrenches
  • Spare HDMI cable
  • Hoods for my nexus 9 and Apple 6s+

I mostly use a LowePro soft bag, but they are not that conducive to rugged travel.

how often do you oil the bearings? this just a spray WD40 in the motors or more complex process?

WD-40 isn't much of an actual lubricant, and overspray of anything when your target is the tiny bearings isn't a good idea IMO. You'll need a needle applicator for whatever you use. TriFlo was recommended on this forum, so I use it: I don't have a Planned Maintenance Schedule so my oiling schedule is "as needed".

Search these forums for 'Oil' and there is plenty of reading.

actually I really like that set up

View media item 399I use a Lowepro as well (Droneguard BP 450 AW. I typically carry the Solo, 3 batteries and 2 chargers, GoPro Hero 4 and it's normal waterproof case, PolarPro 3 filter kit for quadcopters, a small bit set and screwdriver, my tablet/phone and if necessary a secondary HDMI monitor and 25' HMDI cable, 2.5 sets of props and a wind meter.

this bag have more space or any distinct advantages of the SOLO bag?

I've noticed props can become warped when left sitting open in the bag like that with nothing to protect them. Just a little pressure over a period of time can do it.

Not particularly. This bag is modular and designed to fit the Solo or Phantom platform. Since, I have a P2 as well, I went with this. I does include an attached rain fly (great for Florida) and is backed by Lowepro's lifetime guarantee.

When I keep it closed they stay fairly straight. The outer ones tend to have a bit more pressure on them than the central ones. I keep my "production" rotors in the center and "training/fun" rotors on the outside. I also have a set of props still in their original box in the zippered section on top of the bag.

you guys carrying multiple wrenches/pliers/screwdrivers? what for?!
The right tool for the job! There are at least 2 sizes of phillips in a Solo, slotted screwdrivers to push or pry at spots/crevices or wires, pliers and tweezers to grab and manipulate small wires and crimp connectors. GoPro wrench for tightening/loosening GoPro in case or frame, crescent wrench to grab motors to loosen props - hopefully, most of what I need in the field to keep flying.

I'm a competition shooter and a Glock armorer and when I go to a match I just don't take guns and ammo, I take my complete well-equipped armorers kit and spare parts kit - hopefully, most of what I need in the field (match) to keep shooting. And yes, I am just as anal about my competition guns, gear, ammo, and armorers kit. My other forum is Glocktalk...

Thanks... I forgot I have a set of props in the original boxes in the zippered part of my bag.
