Solex for Solo

Installed Solex and Missions with it yesterday
When I want to create a Flight Location at my friends location in France it gives the right distance for it when I save the location.
When I enter Solex next time the "distance" has changed . In my situation the distance to my friends in France was when I saved it 882,15km. When I started Solex the next time the distance was 7178,27 km. So when I selected the location it brought me somewhere on the westcoast of the USA. BTW I selected metric in the App Settings.

cheers

The same happened with me also

Decided to pick up this app. Looks like a lot of work went into it. Nice job on the documentation too. At first launch I felt a bit lost. Could not figure out how one triggers the various smart shots. Also things that plagued the official solo app are present here too like losing connectivity or issues with the live feed. After stopping the video manually the camera button became greyer out etc. Im a very cautious pilot and Solo always makes me nervous for some reason.

I always feel like im going to lose my connection to solo or GPS will glitch etc. Maybe this is a good thing but I rarely enjoy flying Solo for that reason. Also the software quirks dont help. Ive never been able to have a normal day with solo. Either the solo app disconnects or the live feed gets interrupted etc. I guess i was hoping that the Solex app was rock solid in that regard but maybe its just not possible with the hardware its managing. Im not a developer but is that sort of an expectation unrealistic? Im in no way slamming Solex. I think its brilliant. Im just curious why those little issues crop up.

Solo Is a fun device to use!

To touch base on a few of your problems....

"things that plagued the official solo app"
losing connectivity or issues with the live feed isn't a App issues, it's a hardware problem that
has fixes or updates to relieve your probelm(s).

Most everybody has complained about connectivity in one form or another.
Many have found the answers to their problem via the search function of this site.

having video feed problems"

Hope this helps

As Steve said, app connectivity is only as good as the Solo WiFi network it is on.
Remember, you don't need the 3DR or Solex app to fly (and have fun). If the copter drops link with the controller (Noisy WiFi area or out of range), Solo will fly itself home.
Focus on a good reliable GPS, fly in an open area and Solo will really take care of itself.

Well 98% of the time things work fine. I just encounter glitches on random occasions. Still enough to affect confidence in the craft.

Until you arm the copter at a new location it still thinks "home" is where you last flew it.
The Solex Manual tells me " .......Once you've set the position, click the marker, and you'll be prompted to save it as a flying location. Once you've done that , you can "visit" the location by clicking on its name in the list. The map will zoom to that location........." in my case it "visits" a whole different place on earth.

I forgot to mention that when I save the location and "visits" that same moment (it zooms in) perfectly. But when I close the app and start it again the distance of the flying location has changed dramaticly (thousends of kilometers) and "visits" an other place on earth.

is there any thread regarding exclusively to the Missions on the Solex app...?
I want more information to see if I buy it
(most of all it´s capability to "map" terrain with a gopro -something like the 3dr site scan-)
thanks

Hey, does anyone know of a way to sync Solex vehicle and battery stats (flight time, motor time, battery time) across multiple android devices? I have a phone and tablet, and depending on the use case/need at the time, I could be flying using either of those. Right now each device (phone and tablet) track only stats/time specific to the flights that were flown using that device... would be nice to have both devices account for total time on the vehicle and battery without having to do this manually. If I knew where in the settings/configuration files Solex stores vehicle/battery stats, it might be simple enough to copy that data between the two devices between flights? any ideas? Thanks!

Can i use Solex App with this phone?

I feel like a nut. I cant figure out for the life of me how to initiate a smart shot from within Solex. I read the manual and watched at least 5 different videos and cannot find any way to do this. Can someone please fill me in.

Also can anyone confirm whether or not taking photos in mission works? It didnt appear to whem I tried my first mission with Solex this afternoon. Not sure if the camera should be set to photo mode prior. I wasn't recording at the time so at least there's that.

Guides, Updates & Questions about using Solex

I receive no commission from sales, Don't need anything from the author except his friendship & his Kick ASS APP Solex!

Ta-da... Another Solex update. 1.1.6

Yes, I know it's Sunday evening, and I cannot possibly have put out another batch of features since Friday. I didn't. Here's the list of things in the new release:

. Settings-write prompt for Android 6.0

This is for Android 6.0 devices that require special permissions in order to run. If you're running any other Android version, you won't notice this one. If you're on Android 6.0, you'll see a prompt to open the super-secret special permissions page to grant Solex permissions it has on every other Android version.

. Fix reset bug in HDR Shot

This is an obscure issue: Suppose you have your camera set to Video mode and you do an HDR Shot. When it's done, it will set your camera back to Video mode, in an effort to be convenient and helpful. This issue fixes the case where it will do that when you're running a *different* shot. This fixes something none of you have probably noticed, so another not-a-big-deal fix.

. Vehicle Settings sliders updates

A couple of people mentioned that the sliders in the Vehicle Settings screen were hard to move. They were, but I hadn't done anything about it until now. They're smoother now.

. Fixed performance issue with video on Samsung

This one is the impetus for a Sunday evening release.

A couple of people mentioned that their Samsung devices had video troubles with Solex, and mentioned really slow frame rates and the app acting like it was locked up.

If you're interested in the details (which are kind of interesting if you're into how the Solo works), read on. Otherwise, skip to the bottom and read up from there until it gets boring.

:)

Looking into the problem, I discovered that on startup, Solo occasionally sends a HUGE torrent of "parameter received" messages without being asked for them. It doesn't always happen, but does about half the time with my Solo. The rate of incoming messages at that time is up to 300 messages per second, or one every 3ms. I wasn't measuring traffic volume before (didn't realize there was a need), but now that I am, 300 messages/second is 10 times higher than normal.

(For reference: "parameter received" messages are for flight-controller parameters, the kind of data dealt with by the Vehicle Settings screen.)

An Nvidia or Nexus device is fast enough it can apparently handle this kind of traffic without any (or much) issue, so I never noticed it. But my S7 Edge was fairly close to locked up in that case. In addition to hogging the connection for needless messages, the message traffic also overwhelms these devices so they're too busy to display the video frames that come in. I had no idea it was doing all this, until I started logging the messages.

There's really no way to tell Solo to stop sending those messages, but what works fairly reliably is to request a full set of parameters from it. That starts the "parameter refresh" process which runs through the entire parameter list and then ends in about 3-5 seconds. Then it calms down, and traffic levels drop to normal.

I've seen Solo do the same thing when connected to Tower as well, where the Parameters screen would never finish loading. It's the same issue, and appears to be on the Solo side.

So, the fix is kind of interesting. The main message processor in Solex now watches to see how fast messages are coming in. If the rate is too high, it starts filtering out the parameter-related messages so the high traffic doesn't affect other parts of the app. Their message rates are thus normal. Then the main processor starts a watchdog to periodically check message rate, and ask Solo for a parameter list if it detects the problem. Then it waits to see if it was successful, trying again if it wasn't. While it's working on getting Solo to calm down, you'll see that little warning shown in the picture at the bottom of this post. Once it succeeds, the message disappears.

With this logic in place, I've tested this a LOT this afternoon and evening, and Solex always manages to get it to act normal after 10-15 seconds at most. Usually within 3-5 seconds.

If you've managed to stick with this long post, this seems like good news. If you've been using a device where Solex's video feed seemed kind of slow and jerky, it could have been because of the high message traffic. So, theoretically, your video feed should be smoother now.

Well, that's it.

BTW, there won't be a Friday update this week, I'll be in Dallas at a conference.

Does it work with the R10C camera and associates specifications?

Are you pushing the on-screen button that looks like a video camera? Once pushed a list of available shots should come up. Select the one you want.

I don't know how in the world I missd that button! Looking at it now and I don't recall ever seeing it there. I don't know how many times I've explored the menus right next to it but never once touched it. Thanks

Can anyone here confirm whether or not taking photos via the mission module works?
