Gimbal control without hdmi cord.?

Is it possible to control gimbal without hdmi cord ( solo to gimbal) as I am waiting on a replacement for mine?
Also there seems to be an empty female connection near the hdmi connection in the solo..? What is it?
Any help would love u long time

Not sure about that one. Never tried flying without HDMI connection. The data cable should provide what the gimbal needs as far as operation. I do not have my Solo right now (RMA), so extra connector = have no clue. Try it and let us know.

i have tried.. Controller reads no gimbal found, the gimbal l.e.d is breathing red..
I would have assumed that with the control cable for gimbal connected that it would still be 'controllable'..?! Not sure if it is possible, or if gimbal is bad..?
