Help for the new guy?

Question(s) Is the file: OpenSolo4_Solo_and_reset.img the only thing I put on the Solo SD card? Also, do I need to format the card before flashing it?

Yes, flash that image to the Copter SD. Not really, as an image file completely overwrites the card - I think it even warns you of that. If you do preformat it, use FAT32.

Complication. I have the SD card out and when I mount it to my computer it shows as four different drives. Two of which I can't access (says it needs to be formatted), the other two drives are named "Golden" and "Latest". They both contain the same four files. I assume this all means that I'm not the first one to mess with this thing. I'm thinking I should just format card before flashing the files on it. Thoughts?

Those folders have been created by the firmware the 1st time it boots. Loading an image on the SD overwrites all that. But no problem to initially format the card...which establishes the basis for a PC file system...the firmware you will flash is a Linux -like system.

Ok, it flashed successfully. I'm still a bit confused about flashing the cube. Do I have to do that or is it a precaution? I see the USB port, and you mentioned just using mission planner to load it, but doo I have to have a cable connection between my tablet and the cube? Sorry to be so much trouble.

At this point, especially as it's open, flash the cube with the .apj. It's a standard micro USB-> USB A
cable. Yeah, Mission Planner needs to see the cube via a USB connection.

I think I have everything loaded. Before I put it back together, I see there was blue thread locker on the motor mounting screws. Should I be using LocTite when reinstalling?

Update: So, I flashed the SD cards in both drones, and flashed both cubes with little trouble. I just took them both out to a place with some open sky, and my main drone eventually connected. I couldn't get the second one to connect, but will try again later. I wasn't successful at compass calibration, so came home to watch vids, although they all show doing it in the old Solo software, not the Solex. I saw someone doing it inside on a table, but I thought it would be better outdoors away from anything metal. So, I have to figure out the whole calibration deal, but I'm happy to have my main bird pairing with the controller again. Also, I noticed only one of the two drones has two small weights top and bottom on the gimbal. Not sure what that's about.

OK- most definitely do the compass cal outside, in the clear. Wait for a good GPS lock. With SOLEX,
after the GPS lock, have the bird pointing North before starting the cal process. It often takes several attempts, but it will work.

The gimbal weights screw on/off. The Hero 4 wanted the large weights, I think. In the manual they indicate what weights for what camera. These are counterbalance weights to ease strain on the gimbal motors.

I started out pointing North and turned it about a thousand times and the progress bar barely moved. I started wondering if I was supposed to turn it at some certain speed or what.

It needs to be turned in all axis. Couple slow turns in every plane: bottom up, nose up/down. The bar should steadily move as you rotate it in different axis.
