Android 2.4 Beta and Solo FW (2.4.1.3) Update Available..

So im in Greece at the moment and installed the beta because i got impatient waiting for zipline.

Well im regretting now. Most of the time solo cant be found and when it does my Gopro shows no images at all.

Really wish i hadnt dont that. Im guessing i have to do a factory reset now...
I installed the Beta yesterday; haven't flown it but there don't seem to be any special problems on the bench relating to finding Solo, GPS fixes, etc. As a matter of fact, GPS lock seemed to improve greatly.

  • I did have to re-pair my Solo, but I thought that was probably because I had my second Solo paired to the controller the day before.
  • Also, I noticed that all my settings had disappeared in the App and had to be reset. They were not 'picked up' from Version 2.3.
  • In addition, I had to remove my GPH4 and remove/reinsert the battery and reinstall on the gimbal.

I must say, the system was a little wacked after the update, but nothing that 10 minutes of putting Humpty Dumpty together again couldn't cure.

3DR doesn't recommend willy-nilly factory resets - probably because users get confused with what they see or need to do after a reset. I forgot my password that I had assigned early-on and (per the manual) had to do a reset. Chatted with 3DR because the manual said NEVER EVER DO A FACTORY RESET OR THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT, WILL COME TO AN IMMEDIATE END. After chatting, 3DR said, sure... go ahead a do a factory reset to restore the default password. Personally, I would never hesitate to do a factory reset again, but apparently a reset has caused more problems than it has cured for people.

Signed in as a beta tester and I cannot find it on the play store. I've waited this long I guess a few more weeks isn't going to kill me.

so i have android and iOS, not sure if the firmware (one from the android beta) itself made any improvements but it seems the "gimbal glitch" is still there where the gimbal will sometimes limp then kick back on.

However i did take it out for a spin after the firmware update and all seems well with the flight. drifting (drifting from 2.4) is still slightly there, i dont feel comfortable flying between 2 houses or underneath anything with the slight drifting effect.

Did you notice any better/faster/more sats with the GPS lock? I got 10 satellites inside, and quickly, after the update. That never happened before so wondering if it was a fluke or something has indeed improved.

The 2.4.1.3 update updated Arducopter, but not the Gimbal firmware.
The following shows the different firmware for 2.4.1.3, 2.4, and 2.3
These files are located on the solo.
You can see the progression from Arducopter 1.2.23 to 2.0.20 and finally 2.0.23.
All this time the Gimbal firmware is 1.3.6.

i have the v2 shield mod installed, however the gps lock is great when i turn the drone off and on its almost immediate now. my house has too much interference inside to get a lock and when i took it outside while it was on i had to reboot the bird. besides that it seemed to be faster.

good to know! but the drifting seems to still be there :/

From the changelog for 2.0.23:

"Fixed GPS disconnected alarm that wasn't working
Fixed a Fly:Manual altitude scaling bug
Fixed travis deployment

Note: This is equivalent to solo-2.0.21 + the above changes. This does not include Q*Bert gimbal support from solo-2.0.22."

So I would doubt that any "Drifting" issues were explicitly addressed in this update.

One wonders what the Q*Bert gimbal is...

i just figured if they release firmware regardless of beta or what not they would somewhat choose to correct something like that. b/c the drifting is pretty major for some users while for others its minimal. again was just purely excited for a new firmware to use haha.

Do a compass calibration followed by a level cal in that sequence. This minimized drifting for me to an acceptable level.

just got back into town from business
no one flown android 2.4 yet?
what is the skinny peoples

I won't be available until Saturday to fly. But several on here have been flying it fine, including @franknitty69

whats the skinny? everything ok?
the random ekf-2 errors still happening?
already did the calibrations on the new firmware, since I was testing the IOS beta, just not have flown the android app

Read the reports in the beta test group on fb to get the answers to your questions ^^

slim pickens there with all the drama about the android version not being released I would have thought a few more people would have tested and reported

Ive flown 3 batteries so far, overall very stable flights. I did re-cal after I updated and everything seems good so far. hopefully the rain holds off and I will try for a few more flights tomorrow.
