software updates on a re-furb?

I'm trying to set-up a refurbished Solo that has been in the box for months since 3DR sent it back. I've gone through several set-ups before, but this time the update process to link the controller with the Solo just keeps showing it's in progress - for an hour now.
Is 3DR even still doing updates?

Dash, Thank you for your reply. You made me realize how much I have missed since I got upset with 3DR for screwing me out of $6K, and put all their stuff in the back room. I didn't know about the open source change or Solex. I am now scrambling to catch up (4 solos and a completely un-used site-scan program on the shelf).
