Question about GPS lock

Ok what exactly is the HDOP? I know the more satellites the better but I have no idea what bearing HDOP has and what is considered a good reading? BTW I just upgraded my gps to the mRo GPS u-Blox Neo-M8N / 3DR SOLO Upgrade Thx in advance!

HDOP – horizontal dilution of precision
its actually more important than sat count, as it speaks more to the quality of the lock.
on that module you should be < 1, solo will lift of with <2
