Power 5V camera from Solo....

Not sure

Here's some info on the accessory port. hope this helps

Accessory Port | 3DR Solo Development Guide

Introduction | 3DR Solo Development Guide
Reminder:
Hi Burkeam,
I am installing a Sequoia camera (requires 5V, 2A) on my solo and I am hesitating between powering solutions:
- separate powerbank, with UBEC,
or
- power line from Accessory bay :
Either
from the 5v (which pins ?)
Or
from the battery line (P1 PINS 1 & 2 ?) with Step down convertor.

As you seem knowledgeable on this, which way would you recommend ?
Regards Michel

The . Mouser P/N 656-TX2430R6STN1E. MFG P/N TX24-30R-6ST-N1E part will work. I'm now using breakout boards from Franknutty69. 2 amps is too much for the USB 5v on pins 17 &19 as it is rated for a combined 5.7w or 5.7w / 5v = 1.14 amps.

Consider using pin 15 and 30 for higher current using a UBEC and Ian[P13] mentioned. Once converted you should be able to get over 3.0 amp at 5v. 2.0 amps should be good on this circuit so when the main battery voltage is dropping the current won't exceed rated 1.05 amp through primary circuit

I took the 5v signal to the (currently unused) 3DR Bus pcb- Accessory Port

Spliced in a lead and connector for quick install/removal of the two USB power cords to the cameras. See photo. I have requested the current draw rating of this 5v circuit to the accessory port along with the connector specification. I got the answer and don't have the details but the two camera was within the limit.

I'm working on using the aux port - not finished. However this method is quick and clean. I can change to the quad plate from gimbal in less then 10 minutes.

Hope this helps

So why four cameras? Mapping or something?

NDVI. 2 spectrum specific plus standard visual. Typically only use 3 camera when flying NDVI. You only need two but I like the live feed when mapping

Dear Burkeam,

Thanks a lot for your valuable info.
Just a nuts question : Power line is between either pin 15 and GND or pin 30 and GND ; ok ? (not between 15 and 30...)

Here a quick twist. Think of 15 as Power Line a(PLa) and 30 as PLb. All post loads to GRD(s). Use both for the full rated power of the bus of 1.1A. If using only one consider the current draw to be rated at 0.55A.

Sorry, no catch... How can I connect my Regulator 2xIN Wires (+) & (-) to match your suggested 1.1A ? (probably a sketch would speak by itself...)

In other words, pin 15 and ground is in parallel with pin 30 and ground. WIre pins 30 and 15 together for full current supply of 1.1A.

Looks like you can get your 2 grounds from pins 14 and 29 (among others).

Well said. That's what I was thinking, but honestly I found myself stupid in front of Mr Burkeam...
Thanks a lot for clarification.
I will make it to morrow and see what happens...

Welcome. Stupid is when you don't seek the knowledge/answer. There are many more on this forum with more wisdom and intelligence to help. Glad I could assist.

Burkeam,
I have done the wiring as you suggested with a 5V 2A UBEC on Bay Connector ; it works! See attached pict. Thanks again for your advice.

Surprisingly, when "dying" few batteries for tests, the battery duration time is reduced from 16min (average usage with Gimbal & GoPro - 99% down to 8%) down to 12 min (with Sequoia installed).
Whether Sequoia is plugged or not, the average flight duration time is down to 12 min.
With Sequoia operational (continuous pictures every 2s), the duration time is still 12 min...
I did expect more impact with Sequoia in use.
Does this sound normal for you ?
Michel

Note: Since, I have replaced stock props by 11x4.5 and gained one more minute of flight (13 min)

Hello Michel,

I'm glad you got it.

How much weight was added. Flytime will be proportional to the added weight. 12 min is good in my view without knowing all the details. How long ago did you verify 16m? - making sure your not starting to lose your battery

Added roughly 220gr. : total weight (camera, sensor, support, wires, ...)
16 min is average actual flight time over 5 flight tests (last week) with 5 different batteries (around 20 cycles) with Gimbal, Gopro and original props...

That is a bit of weight. Your logs will show an increase motor amperage and thus shorter flight times. 12m not so bad then?

I recorded time, voltage, current during flight tests: current went up to 23,5A...
Average current has never been below 22A...
I am not yet familiar with flog files. I need to learn a bit more on these...
