1.2.5: The "Cleaning up some stuff" update
Christmas is a time for lots of things, including cleaning stuff up. This update has a bunch of that in it, and is consequently a bit lighter on features. I'm making way for a big-ish feature in the near future.
A couple of notable things about this update: The flight screen was largely a collection of separate components I built to do different things: Telemetry on the top bar, separate commands/telemetry/controls, fence-oriented stuff, etc. But the video streaming was sort of "baked in" on that screen. That's been changed so it's a separate component. That will be useful when I start switching between that view and another one I'm planning, finally providing an answer to the age-old question: "Where's the map view?" So in this update, the point of that change is to get essentially identical behavior with a new configuration. A map view of some kind will appear later.
As far as features go, here's the rundown:
. Tweaks to the camera controls, code cleanup
The camera controls panel is also its own component now. On top of that, it has a little tab on the edge of it that you can click to move it out of the way. Since it won't tell you much about the recording status while it's hidden, the tab lights up in red when you're recording, and goes dark when you're not. So you can still tell what you're doing in general with the camera control panel hidden.
. Refactor video stream UI
This is what I mentioned above. Not really a feature, but it's a big new non-thing that's in there.
. MGRS location format
In addition to lat/lng and UTM, Solex now displays locations in MGRS format, if you're into that kind of thing.
. A few bug fixes
Saw a couple of crash reports, and fixed those. The number of crash reports has gone down recently, due to other fixes of this kind.
. Auto-start recording on arm
Someone asked if Solex automatically stops recording when the copter is landed and disarmed. The answer is "yes, it does". I thought it would be cool to make that optional, in case you were interested in recording a lot of footage from the camera while it's sitting 1" or so off the ground. So added a "stop recording on disarm" option. But then I discovered that the Solo *itself* stops recording when it disarms, making an optional "stop recording on disarm" feature not really optional. So, not being interested in having done all of that work for nothing, I implemented an option people were asking for a couple of months ago: Make it possible to start recording automatically when the copter spins up.
And if you're interested in an option like that, it's probably because it's easy to forget you started recording. So to make that a little less problematic, there's also a new "Spoken recording status" option that says something audible when recording starts. This is different than the "Voice status" option that periodically tells you whether you're recording or not.
Every time I post an update, I try to find a cool Solo or Solex-related picture to include in it. This week, the coolest Solo/Solex-related photo I saw (by far) was from
Nick Shane.
I'm headed out of town now, to go freeze my butt off doing Christmas stuff. Have a good one everyone.
