Hello!
My name is Matt and Im located in the mountains of Virginia (obviously), but more specifically Blacksburg Va near Virginia Tech. I moved here from Richmond about a year ago and so far, I LOVE it. I currently work a totally "meh" retail position that I hope to either move up or move on from in the near future. I do some amateur photography on the side with a small Nikon D5000 and a couple lenses. I plan to upgrade to better glass and a full frame when my budget allows for it. Ive included a few photos simply because I like to be a bit of a show off(Forgive the quality, I had to grab them from facebook). Im hoping that an opportunity will arise where I can take my work a bit more commercial and I can start making some money. I LOVE photographing and sharing with others.
Ive always had a unique fascination with remote aircraft thanks to my father. When I was a bit younger, my father built and flew model planes and helicopters which always grabbed my interest, but thanks to weird work schedules and life events, I never was able to get into it deeper.
Now that my life has started to settle down a bit, Ive been looking more and more into drones. They combine two of my interests, photography and RC craft. I wanted to grab something a bit nicer than the 200-300 dollar craft but my finances are not the best and something outside of the range was a nice dream. Now that an opportunity has dropped into my lap where a 3DR Solo is closer to that price, its hard for me to pass it up. I already have a GoPro Hero 4 Silver and a decent PC for editing, so at this point, its just pulling the trigger.
Im hoping to grab some footage up here in the mountains (It is INCREDIBLY beautiful up here) but expand a bit further by taking it with me to the Virgin Islands later this year. I also do a bunch of photography work for airsoft players (Think paintball, but more nerdy) and hope to broaden that into some truly stellar aerial shots.
Im also very excited for the drone simply for the tinkering aspect. I love to mess around with my toys (Camera, airsfot guns, ect.) and I hear both the software and hardware community for this drone is better than anything else on the market!
So that's about it for me and my ideas. Im INCREDIBLY stoked about getting this drone and sharing my experiences and footage with all of you and the rest of the world.
Thanks!
Matt
