Sorry, I should have clarified that I was curious how people modified the holder. What grooves are you talking about?

Take the holder to pieces. There are 2 screws on the back of the flat panel. Once you have it apart you'll see the 2 slots and a spring. Just lengthen both slots until the jaws open wide enough for your tablet. The spring still works fine. Had mine like this for a year now
