Not able to look at this now but was just asked if Solo can be set to record a series of still images at a set interval. Obviously a feature of the Hero 4+ black (and most GoPros?) but just checking to see if that's a setting which is accessible directly from the controller? Switching from video mode to time lapse still image mode for example.

If it isn't available already, it wouldn't be too hard to craft a little python to trigger the GoPRO every X seconds. You'd have to stitch them all together into a video, but that's a matter of one command on a Linux system.

You could then trigger the script from Solex...which I just checked on and has an existing Time-Lapse function.

Get Solex. ;)

Not built into the controller, but Solex has the feature built in. There is a small drop-down to control this just below and to the right of the shutter button.

I should have been more clear in that what I'm aiming for is just a way to take a still image at a regular interval while flying-- not to create an actual time lapse video (although the requirements would be the same I guess). But obviously I need to brush up on GoPro features as reading the manual [GASP!] I did not understand all the various capture modes:

Video + Photo

Simultaneously captures both video and photos. You can set the camera to capture a photo at selected intervals while you record video. For details, see Video + Photo Intervals in this section.

Available intervals for Video + Photo range from 5-60 seconds. The quality of the photo depends on the selected video resolution and FOV.

Perhaps this is the answer. GIven that I'm clueless if it came down to a Python option, I hope so. :-)
I'm back home today and will have to do some tests.
