Solo: The next version?

Hello David, thanks for your Comments, Best Buy is not in Australia but we have a number of smaller independent companies who are distributing the product.
I got my solo a couple of months ago less Gimbal which followed some two weeks later unfortunately it was faulty (no vision output) after contacting support and carrying out several procedures to correct problem it was decided by support to return the Gimbal.
To my surprise all happened extremely quickly and efficiently even down to all FedEx paperwork and local pickup which happened in a day.
Then the wait started and that's where we are at present being told as of last night tracking info should be sent by Friday for replacement Gimbal.
I think 3DR are doing what they can under the circumstances they are trying very hard and possiblely making statements of two to three week turnarounds a bit ambitious, a little more communication wouldn't go astray, apart from that I am very happy with solo and will be eaglely waiting for my replacement Gimbal so I can get in the air and start to see some return on my investment.
John, I'm in Victoria.
I got my Solo from Gooutdoors. The Gimbal was faulty as per yours (no video feed), I contacted Goooutdoors and they mailed me a postage sticker and said send it in. It turned out to be faulty. I had a new one in my hands 4 days later. Who did you go through?

Hi there, thankyou very much for your information, but unfortuneatly leaves a somewhat sour taste with me as I dealt with the same Company, and when it came to talking about a problem Gimbal I was basically fobbed off to support which at the time I thought a bit strange seeing they were a Distributers of the 3DR brand.
I must admit the original guy I dealt with, a Justine I think his name was who got my original email on the problem, but was on holidays so I had to deal with someone else, but be rest assured they are going to receive an email asking why is it good for one and not the other.
So thankyou and the problem was no vision like yours I believe the problem is a ribbon cable is the cause. Cheers.

Mate I empathise.
Similarly to you, when I first rang about the Gimbal I was told to take it up with 3DR. Not cool.
Thankfully my wife works in an industry which requires her to know the law around consumer rights.
You simply tell them, that you bought the product from them, an Australian company, and they are obliged to provide full product support and returns. It is for them to deal with the manufacturer.
If you also tell them you run a business and the faulty item is for that purpose, they really jump on it because you could then sue them for lost revenue over the period you were without the equipment you paid for.
Good luck, be polite, but firm.

OK thank you, for your advice, well I have sent them and email already but will send a second one laying out specifics thank you, because initially when I spoke to one of them he had been at a 3DR course on the machine itself but also dealing with procedures regarding warranty claims.
Your info is invaluable. Cheers,.

It's best to get them on the phone. Emails are too easy to be dismissive in response.

How's the solo going anyway there nexxypoo?? I fly mine but can only take shaky pictures which bugs me, although it's better than what I previously had, it's just annoying.
I love it. I have been flying multirotors as a hobby for about 5 years now (just passed my CASA approval a few weeks back), and it is the best thing I have ever used. Love the open-source potential of it in particular.
I shoot video for fun, and get lovely smooth content from it. I have a video or two up in the gimbal vid thread.
But my thing is science, and the solo + MP/Tower is a wonderful thing. Aerial survey work is a breeze.
And it looks so badass too.... :)

Yes similiar this end I have had and got about 6 different machines from those white things to a big hex, my work background was a Video Online Editor using all the expensive gear so the video shooting and editing Is right up my alley, that's why I am so annoyed at the delay.
I have been thinking of getting the Casa approval as I have an unrestricted private pilots licence so I am sort of there, but Solo is a beast it's just the ideal platform has to be the most stable platform I have used yet, and the preprogrammed moves plus tower it's just perfect.

If 3DR were to introduce a Solo 2 in the near future, they would lose about eighty percent of their loyal fan base, myself included.

Me too. One of the reasons that I bought Solo in the first place was 3DR's strong marketing towards the Solo being "future-proof".

Have you got a you tube channel? Mines "john multicopter hill" there's a variety of stuff on it.
I have a youtube account, not sure if that means I have a channel as well.

That's very nice, God the gimbal makes such a difference, what's you real name I can't call you nexxpoo, the You Tube channel you have to create it just means that you can have all your videos under one area like a tv channel but each video still has its own unique URL .i used to do. Volunteer work up here with a local Museum and created a channel for them and started to incorporate aerial footage towards the end and combine that with ground level footage makes a great combination when the bank account recovers a bit I want to get a hand held gimbal and shoot a bit more steady footage from the ground cause there is nothing worse than trying to hold a closeup and it moving all over the place.

You can just hold the solo without props and use it as a handheld gimbal for ground shots. I've worked on a shoot where we did that.

Just a question there, do you recall when you got your Solo,? And did you get Solo with Gimbal initially or did you get Solo then the Gimbal?
I just got a reply from GoOutdoors and they said that they have been on back order for Gimbals for about a Month now.
They said it should have been quicker to get a result from support than to wait for stock.
I got my Solo early September cause it was held in Victoria by Aust post for about 4 days and the gimbal followed about two weeks later, and sent it away to support on the 30th September, so about the end of September GoOutdoors have been out of stock since then, interesting.

Well we were close so you must have got nearly the last Gimbal.
Have you seen that training Video on follow and then changes it to orbit so the camera holds its position wow what I am missing out on although the weather is lousy up here rain and wind ......

Yes indeed... the Solo and gimbal combo is genuinely awesome in its potential.
