So being somewhat broke after forking out on a Solo, Gimbal, Spare Battery and a GoPro 4 Black in the space of a week, I needed to look at budget ways of transporting all the gear about.
I procured myself a Peli-Case off eBay with blank foam inserts.
Solo fits nicely inside with plenty of room for the other bits and pieces
Electric carving knife is a better option over a craft knife when dealing with inch thick foam.
Controller will go here on the lower layer
Done
Next up, Solo, Gimbal and GoPro
<
Here's how it looks with the controller packed underneath
Second layer of foam
Top layer is made up of pick foam
Finished Product with enough space for both chargers, 3 Battery packs (one on Solo), Props, Gimbal & GoPro.
The cuts are by no means perfect compared to machine made cuts but they'll do the job.
My main learning from all of this if anyone fancies giving this a go is to mount your electric meat carver in a workbench or similar so the blade is vertical.
Then take the foam pieces to the blade so you get nice perpendicular cuts - I was just cutting by hand so they were mostly chamfered at varying degrees!
Also keep the lower layer foam cut out for the controller, Gimbal, Batteries and charger.
Cut these blocks in half horizontally and stick them back into the cutout so there's a layer of protection between your gear and the plastic of the casing.
Cost:
Peli Case off eBay £38 ($58US)
Electric Carving Knife £9.99 ($15.41US)
Total £47.99 ($73.41US) and about 2.5 hours of your time.
