I didn't enjoy Easter Sunday.

After a week of rain, we had a glorious Sunday. 15 degrees Celsius, Great Sunshine. Couldn't wait to get out to fly.

Last week I flew a series of 200ft flights of my backyard area, which is bordered by a park and Lake Ontario. It was great, I got a tone of great material.

So, on Sunday, I went for some close ups, well closer ups. I had my altitude at 27 feet. Things were going really well. I was flying down an old grain elevator dock, just some low lying brush, when I hit the top of a tree, which sent me into a crash. To the ground.

All props were broken at the hub. The cover on the GPS disappeared, and the craft was damaged in two different parts at the front of the craft.

I was able to send logs to 3DR. I was also able to do the latest update. I have not tried to spin the props.

What do I need to do to confirm I need to purchase the replacement she'll and rebuild the Solo.

Or do I buy a new Solo without gimbal and radio, and start from there?

Any experience someone would have doing this would be great

Thanks

Tell me about it.

I'm waiting for 3DR to get back to me. I'm pretty sure I made the mistake, but they seem like caring and thorough guys.

Better Hide you SN: if you didn't register your drone @ 3DR just saying
im sorry for your lost

This what i will do in case of crash involving body shell damage
try to ducktape the body as good you can dont install props if props nuts ares stuck try to get some rubber strip and hold the bell with the strip then un screw the props nuts
then switch one of your A or B buttons to fly manual and leave one to fly as default
then start the solo in fly manual mode and see if all the pods ares spinning right = not too mutch vibrations or noises PS: check for debris in the motor bell before starting the motors move the stick all azimutes
then go outside and choose fly and check if you have GPS locks
then check if the gimbal and gopro ares still functional looks like your gimal center shaft crooked but you stll have the fix mount to patch
then use mission planner and check eachs motor individualy for vibration or replacement
then if your ok you should get a body shell replacement
then becarefull about splitting the solo apart there's lots wires whoo need to be dissconected so take your time
here's a place where you can see the internal of the solo
OneDrive

Ps; remember Remove SN
Maybe there's somes others users who might have additionals infos on diagnose your crashed solo good luck hope it helps

I had to replace my shell once (set your RTH altitude high enough, folks!), it was $110.42 shipped from 3DR. It wasn't hard to do, pretty straightforward. If you know it was your fault, just go for it.

It's registered, and I have asked 3DR to confirm its my mistake, so the SN is mine. Good tip though. I appreciate?

I'll do the checks you have suggested. They would make the decision to buy the case easier. I've watched some YouTube stuff on how to do the removal and reinstall.

Ego is still hurting here.

Or, Just let 3DR do it & may get some kind of warranty with it when they ship it back? Even without warranty, knowing that they fixed everything, is better than saving 25% or even 50% then doing it yourself.
all depends how deep your pockets are or if your up to the challenge to do it yourself.
Sounds like your in the business, so you need to fix her up ASAP. You can get your $$$ back off of 1 job.

In the condition it's in, I wouldn't even attempt to put any props on!
All stability is gone.
Get a RMA & put it all in a box & send it off to 3DR.
My guess? about $350 to $500.

Hope this helps

I had no intention of putting props on, just spinning up the motors to confirm they are O.K.

There I a repair service, I sent them an email Monday and got no reply. Not a positive start.

I've asked 3DR how much to replace the bird. Given the price drops, they haven't changed the prices of the replacement parts. That's how I would like to handle this, but I was an original DJI Phantom owner. You needed to be keen to repair that bird.

Thx

sorry about the crash, had an incident myself over the weekend, but your one was quite a hit, I'm surprised that GoPro is still in one piece.

whether you go with the shell replacement or replacing the whole bird, you can use the 20% discount code, it's still valid until tomorrow : "DIYD20OFF"

OK, that is "that bad" If 3DR finds it as your fault, sure you can replace the shell. My only concern would be how bad the shock was to the flight controller (Pixhawk2). At what point does the IMU get damaged?

If it took an upgrade, which I did after the crash, would that not confirm the imu and the Pixhawk2 would be OK?

Would the log I sent to 3DR tell them about internal damage?

I think I might just buy another without the gimbal, and sell my current bird for parts that people might need.

I would feel more confident that way. I have to make the decision by noon today if I would receive it by the weekend. I guess I shouldn't rush my decision, but the sale ends tomorrow

Not sure if the logs would show IMU damage, until the next flight.

FWIW, here's what mine looked like. It hit hard enough to bend the gimbal's metal X plate and shear the HDMI connector off. Got a new shell, moved over the components, new gimbal, still works great today.

Amazing how the breaks are in almost the same place. Did you have any issues with the electronics like the IMU or the Pixhawk2?

Did your only repair involve replacing the shell?

Yep just the shell. It would still power on in the broken shell, I just had to move the internals and get a new gimbal. No issues with the electronics.
