So I just received my 2nd Solo and was wondering how to setup the communications. Is it as simple as changing the default IP from 10.1.1.10 to say 10.1.1.11...on 2nd controller and 2nd Solo? I mostly intend on the 2nd being a backup, but want it ready to fly.

Also, on my first Solo, I have updated to firmware 1.5.3, installed the latest Open Solo on controller & Solo, changed to the mRo with V2 shield (and cardboard mod). Wondering if I should proceed to do the same with the new Solo. I will definitely update to firmware 1.5.3, due to the MUCH increased landing stability I experienced in my first Solo.

As I'm typing all this out...it occurs to me that unless I have BOTH Solos operating at the same time, I could just leave 2nd Solo comms at default. BUT, if I mistakenly use controller #1 on Solo #2...are any parameters gonna get overwritten or anything along those lines?

Sorry for the ramble, just wanna understand.

If you changed the GPS to an MRO and you have the V2 Shield, you don't need the cardboard mod in there, it's doing nothing. In fact since cardboard absorbs moisture and it's sitting next to electrical components... you may want to remove it.

Learn to land manually.

It may actually be a better idea to pair your controllers to both drones, once the controller is powered on it will work with the first bird it finds (and is paired with). It's always good to have a backup.

Yup, I'm currently using 3 solo's with one controller. Now I did get a "new solo" message when using the 3rd drone this weekend, so that either means there's a 2 max limit, or I just hadn't paired that drone with that controller before. However all drone (and controllers) would have to be running the same firmware. So no mixing and matching between open solo and stock solo drones or controllers.

I do all my landings in MANUAL...prior to 1.5.3, about 50% of the time, props would slow down, then spin back up causing a flip. Since 1.5.3, that behavior is totally gone.

I may go back in and remove the cardboard...thanks for the tip.

Thanks!

I'm planning several upgrades for one of the Solos. So, that means I'll have to use its own controller.
Cannot have for example one green cube Solo and a stock Solo paired to the same comtroller, is that right?

Actually I think you can have a green cube and a stock cube paired to 1 controller. I believe user "XevetS" is doing that very thing.

Totally right, I have 1 stock pixhawwk and 2 green cube solos paired with the same controller, it's not an issue. The only time you can't pair two solo's to the same controller is if one solo is running open solo and the other is running stock software.

What is the procedure for pairing 2 stock Solos to 1 controller?
Same procedure as pairing 1 stock solo to 1 controller.
Turn on Solo #1
Turn on controller
Press the "pair" button on the bottom of Solo #1 (you'll need a paperclip or other such advanced tooling) for 2 looooong seconds
Controller will say "New solo found, press A&B to pair".
Pair Solo #1 with controller.
Now power off Solo #1
Power on Solo #2
Press the "pair" button on the bottom of Solo #2 (you'll need a paperclip or other such advanced tooling) for 2 looooong seconds
Controller will say "New solo found, press A&B to pair".
Pair Solo #2 with controller.

Going forward you can now use that controller with either Solo #1 or Solo #2. It will all depend on which solo is powered up and links to the controller 1st.

Thanks, just went through this procedure.
Paired with Solo 1, then paired with Solo 2.
But when I turned off Solo 2 and turned on Solo 1, controller said "New Solo Detected", and had to re-pair Solo 1.
I take it I will need to re-pair the odd Solo each time?

Since it's coming up with "new solo detected" you don't need to hit the "pair" button on the bottom of the solo, just use A&B on the controller to pair. The controller is just letting you know it's switching solo, you may not have gotten that message at all if you'd powered off the controller completely after powering off solo 2. However since the controllers last active connection was with solo 2, it's basically requesting if you want it now to work with Solo 1.

Got it, thanks. It was that having to "Press A + B" each time that was confusing me.

PS, is 2 the limit on Solos you can pair to a single controller, or can you pair 3+?
PPS. Having just paired my primary controller with Solo 3, would have to say that you can.
