Lots of new Solo’s and first time Solo owners due to the sale. Here are some suggested links:

All links are not verified by me SR.

3DR Support: Vu Tran's message regarding 3DR's support for Solo.
https://goo.gl/WY0VR8 FP link

3DR Solo User Manual: Start here for Solo setup and operations. PDF file
http://bit.ly/28Qx4rG

3DR How-to videos: Flight school
https://goo.gl/xcaiwC

App Device: Apple (iOS) or Android Smartphone or tablet.
https://goo.gl/olvYjw

Compatible with GoPro HERO3, 3+ and 4; optimized for HERO3+ and 4 (Hero 4 Black for the best experience).

Backpack: The crate that comes will Solo is ok but it will fall apart in time. Very wise investment to get a sturdy case.

3DR backpack: Great, solid comfy backpack. $149 <---$99
https://goo.gl/Lo3bek

GPC Solo Limited Edition (5.11 Rush72) backpack: Much more room for Solo and equipment. Remove foam insert and you have the 5.11 Rush72 (3-day) backpack. $239
https://goo.gl/FWbTLb

Think Tank 485 Airport Helipack: $200 <-----$99
https://goo.gl/cyS52y

Lowepro DroneGuard CS400: $140
https://goo.gl/yNJWiY

Leg Extenders: Unless you always launch and land on solid ground with no or low grass, you will need to slightly extend the legs so the gimbal will clear the ground.

3DR Leg Extensions: $17
https://goo.gl/ExEoCB

Relish3D Leg Extender V2. Great stuff from David Tan. $30
https://goo.gl/srKxoW

Antenna: Lots of ways but here is a decent cheap and expensive, bolt-on option:

ALFA: Good place to start and cheap. $20
https://goo.gl/fSBO9R

FPVLR: The better solution. $126 (coupon code: 2016 for 10% off)
https://goo.gl/pGrK75

Prop Balance: For the best smooth video, balance your props.

EJK Solo balance rod: $20
https://goo.gl/YoML99

Du-Bro prop balancer: $22
https://goo.gl/JFl9rK

Great Peter W. Moyer video on prop balancing:
https://goo.gl/s36p3O

GoPro Lens Filter: Helps for those bright days, reflections off water. You will probably need to balance gimbal with the added weight of filter.

SRP: Various cost for ND (Neutral Density and/or polarized)
SRP ND8: $33 (1 lens)
https://goo.gl/960vNw

Another great Peter Moyer video on how to balance the gimbal after added a GoPro lens filter

What an excellent resource for first timers - great job!
Thanks Steve. Good resource for beginners and a good refresher for experienced pilots.
Excellent list - thank you from a new Solo owner
I found it very helpful myself.
I copied it from FB with the owners permission & pasted it for the many that don't have a FB acct. or hasn't been approved for this private site.
Everyone is welcome to add any other good info.
Let me know, & i will add it to that post

my advice: your $380 quad has amazing potential. Just be ready to spend a lot of time and probably just as much getting it to run well (lens + lens profile + antenna patch). Which to say is still a good deal even if you factory in a new gopro price
but if you want a better RTF out-of-box experience, return it and look elsewhere.

Any recommendation for a better then $399 Solo "Out the the Box" experience?

You should go to the Grass is Greener ELSEWHERE forum and hang out there. We have SOLO's and most of us are still having fun and every new person needs some guidance which Steve did very well. Thanks Steve.

did i say it was a bad value? I just said be prepared to be spending a lot more, which is reaffirmed by your first post with all the mods you've listed.

of all the flavors you choose to be salty
i'm giving the new owners realistic expectations...not the BS 3DR fed us.

OK, but i can tell you from experience, that a negative attitude or saying pessimistic remarks at one's hobby site, isn't proper web etiquette, you can DM any comment you wish, but your asking for rude replies & from the little i know of you, your not that kind of guy.

So if your still a Solo owner & wish to help us enjoy & what some of us have paid several thousands of dollars for, then your more then welcome to convey some of your constructive concerns & I for one looking forward to your questions, input, or just the plane "I like your post"

Have a nice one

so because it's a site for 3DR owners and prospective owners, we can only say positive things and the negative stuff should be kept to ourselves?

Are you serious?

This is a community for us to share our experiences. You started this thread to help new owners, i 'm doing the same by giving them my honest input.

I have no put down any members here. Sure I critcize the parent company of the quad, but i'm following forum rules here just fine.

Cheers.

twitchy zero is a stain on this community
bit without the forum admins taking a stand on the people here that are just here to run down the solo, then folks who come here to enjoy the bird will slowly turn this channel off

Allowed behavior is accepted behavior

How do you think most will read that?
Im not going to reply to you on this subject cause my previous reply was discounted to nothing, & I was being nice non judgmental.

Good day & hoping you may understand what we're trying to tell you.

Again, good evenig

I think they'll appreciate my honesty, but that's just my opinion.
How dare I have a different opinion on an Internet forum.
