Interesting tweet in the middle

Thank you for the link. Very heartening piece, seeing the power of a motivated community.

Wanted to state my own gratitude to everyone involved for what they have, and will continue, to achieve

It is also very awesome that Dronelife linked to the Ardu blog on solo getting a new life
Matt, Kelly and the rest of the gang deserve the positive press.
They worked their butts off on this.

I think the tweet was a hopeful interpretation to what he said.... But yes, Kelly, Matt and all the devs, great job and thank you!

elaborate? it was interesting word choice
I'm not holding my breath waiting on what he said or how someone interprets his tweets. The gimbal code, what everyone is presuming from the tweet, is a structural part of SiteScan or eventually to DroneCode. Releasing that into the wild would compromise their only unique IP asset. I think he is stating ArduPilot, when he states "we"....

imho...and I'm a glass half full type of person....

rumors are they are abandoning th\e solo for site scan. Best I can tell they are working on a next gen hardware for site scan based on the intel aero platform. Solo has been dropped from Pixmapper I think it is called. A site scan like product. Solo is entering Iris stage with 3DR
they even let the plastics and files to print Iris after they moved on.
So if and it is a big if, 3DR still ownes the gimbal code, they could release it.
We shall see.
My guess is even if they dont, someone is going to replace the gimbal code and solo smart shots. Companion computers are now a staple in the DIY world. Just a matter of time before someone gets it figured out

All of the above is pure speculation on my part, having read a lot of back channel news over the past few months

If it was that easy to duplicate, you'd think within the last two years DJl would have done it. Still nothing from them on the same level of finesse. I just don't see 3DR giving that tech up. It would be foolish if they did.

You maybe right on the hardware, CA has mentioned several times hardware is basically a lost cause. Pix4D dropped Solo support to give exclusive integration to SiteScan for the cloud side of the processing equation. They are a member of DroneCode....seems everyone forgets about DroneCode. These are large ships (corps) involved, nothing is done overnight, but when they come to port everyone knows it.

Well DroneCode all but threw the Ardu team out, so screw that
I am sure that most of the solo stuff is written in that, but as someone who can code enough to be dangerous. If we ever get a look at how they actually control that gimbal it can be done.

Guess we will see soon, it sure would not be the first time CA said something that was totally untrue

Not true, arducopter made a choice based on the principal members direction for the org. I respect both parties choices.

Like I said, if it could be done easily, DJl would have it... It is interesting no one mentioned anymore about DJl's code, still not open source, but yet likely to have thousands of arducopter code within....

two sides of the story totally different.
I know folks very close to ardu. And I know there were licensing disputes.
But it did not have to go the way it did. CA was more than happy to send ardupilot packing, inspite of the fact he would have been nowhere without it.
PX4 and Dronecode is out for me, one notch up from DJI
My money is on ardupilot and opensource.

But to each their own.

Well I have heard two different stories from two different camps
it was not hard to parse and figure out at least who was being more forthcoming with their tale
