As a (real) pilot, i strongly recommend www.skyvector.com as it also automatically implements "Notices for airmen" (NOTAMs), I.e. temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) - areas that are no nos for all aerial folks...

As a helicopter pilot I too vouch for skyvector but always open for more tools and resources.

It takes FOREVER for skyvector to load on my iPad Mini 2. Not to mention panning and zooming. It's basically unusable for me.

Were you using "World VFR" or your area sectional in skyvector? If you were on World VFR setting it could bog down your device, maybe try the sectional for your area only. Also you can deselect METARs too, in the end I guess it would be close to vfrmap without the hassle so disregard. lol

Wow, I can use World VFR and pile on the layers including WX, and it still pans and zooms no worse than regular Google Maps with my Galaxy Tab S2 8" (new model 713/new processor).
