I have a gopro 3+silver I'm using in the stationary gimble..the problem I'm having is why does everthing look so far away even when I film up close.. it has a 170 degree lens.. is there any way to make what you film to look normal distance....love this forum.. I've learned so much

The lens is too wide. Swap it for a lens with a narrower field of view. Keep in mind that a narrower field of view will "zoom" the picture, and will amplify vibrations in the chassis, making your footage appear less stable.

People like different lenses, but I use the Peau Productions 3.97mm lens.

If you're asking these types of questions, I'd advise you to have someone swap the lens professionally for you. Peau has a service where they will install, calibrate, and optionally tweak the firmware to change the embedded lens profile, fixing the pink color cast on the corners.

Did that lens come with it? Did you get the camera new?
Bought 2x new GoPro Hero4 Black from Amazon, drop-shipped them to Kolari Vision, purchased from and had my Peau lenses installed by Kolari Vision during the process of having my cameras converted to Full Spectrum for agricultural mapping purposes. Ilija is a stand-up guy and does excellent work, and I use him for all of my conversions and lens filters.

Bought the camera used on ebay.. so it came with the 170 degree lens...I just don't care for the wide angle...

Its hard to fly fpv ...hard to judge distance with the wide angle lens.. so would a 120 degree lens make things look normal? ...had my solo for about 2months now.. so I'm still learning...learned alot on this forum though. ..want a gimble. .but it cost more than the drone. .lol

120deg is closer to what you want, yeah. Should be a fair bit nicer as that is roughly the angle of view for my RunCam2 which I'm now using for FPV on my Solo.

This shot was taken with the Peau 3.97. I think it is wide enough without excessive distortion.

For everyday use, is it the Peau 3.97 with the IR cut or without? I'm thinking of upgrading at least one of my camera lenses from stock.

Any thoughts on the Ribcage setup?

With. You don't want Full Spectrum or IR-pass unless you're into extra-spectral imaging as a hobby (which I am, for instance), as you'll need extra glass (an external hot mirror filter) to shoot normal images again.

None at all. Seems a bit pricey and very heavy for the Solo gimbal. Not something I would use, but others seem to be happy with it.

Thanks Folks, I want to get at least one of my gopro's converted to the 3.97mm and just needed to know which lens to go for. I'll pick the lucky gopro, print off the form, pick the proper lens, send it all in and go for it. Thanks for the input and advice folks!

I have the same camera and am happy with the video settings at 1080P, 30FPS, NARROW.
