DBSMODs antenna testing... 2.5miles so far!

That's great. I was spooked when I heard someone maxed out at 1/2 mile.

Does RTH activate once the signal is lost?

First tests are done... with stock setup I was able to reach out over 3500ft distance at around 400ft altitude...

Second run with the panel antenna got a mile and a half...

Can you please tell me what antennas you used? Maybe post a link???

Thanks,

Kmd

I wonder how many posting about the need for mile+ ranges are flying within the U.S.? Those that are will not have that need for much longer.

What? Can you please rephrase your statement? I don't understand.

Thanks,

Chuck works with ITELITE. Consider him the US rep for that product line. They are building a bolt on package for the Solo with everything you need. Chuck is prototyping it now and has a few different configurations to try.

When the product is ready you will find it at DBSmods.com

DOT/FAA Part 107 NPRM. If and once implemented I think all the long distance MR folks will be getting their wings clipped.

You will note my original post referencing distance limits mentioned the U.S.

For those living here it doesn't make a lot of sense to be investing in long range video and telemetry equipment unless they intend to wait and file for BLOS operations permits after the next regulatory go 'round a year or so from now.

Back to the fun stuff in the meantime.

Well my eyesight is really good :)

So I plan on pretty decent distance in the future.

But I am sure you are right. The government will screw it up. Like all things.

Just to clear facts here... I'm pretty much just the product tester... I don't work for itelite or represent them. The antenna I am working on is gonna be heavily delayed waiting on sales results and feedback... they wanna see if Solo is gonna sell big first before jumping the gun.

Damn thing looks pretty sweet all dressed in black tho right Rich?!?

This is what I was hoping someone was building. Looks sharp. Is there also a component that attaches to the copter?

Sounds like the stock controller range is a significant limiting factor, then. Do you expect to see another generation of these panels with even greater ranges?

Looks great Chuck. And even though you don't work for ITELITE you are in fact the guy that figured it out and made it happen. Can't deny that !!

I would love to do that but most people don't like the size when they get big like that so they don't sell well to a broad range of users... that's the kicker.

Mr. DBS,

Good job and thanks for all the work and sharing. To our consigliere, duly noted. Still would like your reciepe. :)

Chuck, (I'm David), the Itelite rig looks pretty cool. I have a background (among other things) in Avionics so have a basic understanding in antennas, wave propagation, polarities, etc. Been looking at some of the Itelite panels, especially the 2.4 19db H/V with a pole mount and a Bullit RF meter. Any thought on something like that? Doesn't sound like there will be any of DBS's rigs available any time soon, if ever so looking into my own design and want to take advantage of whats already been done. Thanks, David PS Reaching out to you as you seem to have a strong technical background and a good rapor with DBS
