I have heard about a few different apps. Solex, tower, mission planner... Does anyone have a list of apps that I should look in to and what they do? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for stuff to go with my solo that is not extra batteries, a Gimbal, and a camera. (I already am getting those) Thanks in advance!

I got the leg extensions and the LED's. Both are solid add ons.

*edit: I also got the double capacity battery for the controller.

List of upgrades and mods to consider:
Upgrades and Mods to Consider

Search "3dr Solo Tower" and "3dr Solo Mission Planner" on YouTube for info on those applications. Too many features and uses to explain.

Another application to know is WinSCP - it can be used to download log files from your Solo or Controller.

Solex offers more functionality that the 3dr Solo app and is continuously being updated with fixes and new features. Solex is the only way to go.

you are coming in at a good time, and i say fly it awhile before diving too deep in.
It all depends on how far down the rabbit hole you wanna go.
technically the most advanced solo flying right now is rigged with
Here GPS
Green Cube (PH2.1)
Arducopter 3.5
Solex

Then there are long range radios RFX900
Optical Flow
etc etc
T-motor replacements

The ones I dont think are worth the time (just my opinion)
wifi cards
Ribbon cables

Solo is moving full speed into its life after 3DR
it is weeks if not days away from being supported by arducopter
And new hardware options are coming online
for example one of solos known weak spots is the the GPS
up until just a couple weeks ago the MRO at 80 bucks as a replacement was the best plug and play option, has now sort of been superseded by a 40ish buck Here GPS

Ok. That makes sense. Arducopter support? Can you tell me more?

Solo always flew on arducopter but it has fallen behind I think its on 3.2
And it was a fork of the real code base, now it has rejoined arducopter on its current version 3.5 that is in beta but releasing stable soon
it allows more hardware and features, like boat mode, and even throw mode.
You can read about ardupilot here
ArduPilot Open Source Autopilot

Yay! So solo will get software updates?

If you are running the green cube yes
there is some talk about putting a slew rate fix, I believe that effort is in an attempt to bring master to solo without the new flight controller
but like I said dont rush into things, you may find solo works for you just fine.
Many people are still flying totally stock solos and loving them
but for all the old coots like me, we like to tinker with things and make them better

I am not planning on buying anything extra for a while, but I enjoy tinkering We will see where this goes! Thanks for the help pyrate

Oh you are doomed
this thing is a tinker fest
I tinkered my way right into building an entire UAV

It is
I came to UAVs from a video world. Seemed like a good tool to add to my kit.
Got a solo after months of research, and then went on a two year side track. Only recently getting back to my roots in video.
In the meantime I ended up with two solos
One is my work horse that has only a MRO and T-motor mods on it.
My second solo is totally a experimental platform running the cube and copter master.
And my new toy is X8 that I built myself. I love that thing and have only just declared the air frame done. I am ready to move to payload stage now. I bought a Panasonic Gx85 as a b roll camera and to fly on the new DIY. Still working out gimbal and video transmission. But I am in no hurry to get there
this makes it look small but that is 8 14 inch props
