Filming with GoPro 4 black

Not sure if this is the right forum for the question.

When filming with GoPro 4 in 4K, FOV is wide, is it the only FOV in 4K? If it is, wish they include other FOV such as medium/narrow in future firmware update.

Just my theory, but I think to get 4K the whole sensor must be used. I don't think the lens actually zooms for smaller FOV's, (would require moving parts, a deeper body, more lenses etc.) so software is probably using just part of the sensor to achieve that effect (cropping), therefore less resolution. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's my understanding as well. The sensor is 4K, so there's no way with a fixed lens to get a narrower field of view without just cropping, which then doesn't end up being 4k. That's why the other FOV modes are only available on lower resolution settings, with narrow only being available on the lower resolutions - the lower the resolution, the more it can just crop what the sensor is seeing.
