I'm not too surprised. I have read elsewhere consumer warranty laws are different in Australia and companies selling there extend the warranty period to ensure compliance. Not sure if countries in the EU have different requirements?

My guess is that it has to do with EU Directive 1999/44/EC.

It's the law in Europe but then again the Solo and accessories costs a lot more than they do in the US.

It's longer because Europe is on the metric system.
