Solo Video Questions

I'm still a noob here.
Have 4 great flights now and have had a chance to really start testing things out a bit more in a big open place!

I'm a computer/network guy so am getting along with this system great.

Obviously the TX is the AP in the Wifi system and the Solo is an AP client in terms of the wireless network.

How is the video stream from the Solo accessed over the network?

I'd like to be able to use software on a PC to view the video stream.

Is it simple RTSP or HTTP? something easy to access with say.. VLC player??

I've also figured out that I can hook an HDMI display directly to the TX.

I *think* The Solo gets video from the USB/video port on a GoPro NOT the HDMI port right?
So the video feed to a phone or tablet is NOT HD but converted composite video?

Im sure the video feed is HD 720p to your device via WiFi downlink. Your video feed is from the HDMI port of the GoPro Thats why you see the gopro info in your display. Please resource the 3dr solo manual, there is lots of good info there. Attaching your gopro link. This is basic but it shows HDMI. The gimbal is HDMI Type D micro. Same as Gopro port.

And yes you are right.. the Big USB connector is being used to power/charge the GoPro.
HD video is taken from the backplane connector in the gimbal.
I forgot that was being used.
My question is about getting access to the video stream from the network.
Phone app can get it I'd like to also view it from an on Solo network connected PC.

I just did this last week on a Windows machine, follow this thread:
Watching Solo video on PC

Essentially you follow 3DR's video pipeline guide, though you first need to get the controller on your wifi network using the "solo wifi" command.

The one counter-intuitive thing is you need to make a client request to a port on the controller...which makes it think you're the mobile app. You can do this with telnet.

Start up VLC as the guide says, and bam...slightly laggy though HD video.

The GP big USB connector isn't used; the HD video comes from the GP HDMI connector; the Hero Bus rear connector powers the GP.

And I went and checked
Just to make sure that you were right ;-)

I could have swore from memory that is was the big 'ol USB connecter but no.

When you turn on the solo I just get a solid red light on the GoPro (I have a 3+ Black).
You can't control it from the Solo app until you first turn it on by manually hitting the power button on the GoPro.
Then you can turn recording on and off via the wifi connected app.
Control of the go pro seems very limited at least with my model of GoPro.

For some reason I just figured that the solid red light coming on but no display on the GoPro meant it was charging the battery and I
Just figured it was via the USB/Charge/Composite connector.
But I was completely wrong.

I make too many assumptions sometimes.
I'm wrong a lot!
But I usually learn a lot and get things done/working.
I learn slow and trip over myself a bit but I learn well and retain it for a long time.
