I am backpacking on a long trip Asia/South America .. so having 1. light 2. packable/small items is essential ...
so I carry everything with me .. a tent .. sleeping bag .. laptop ...

Solo seems great ..

if I remove the legs (some have parts like an antenna ... but seems to be doable ...) for packability ... when moving places ...

seems that it would be more packable ...

hmmm but I might just get fed up with screwing them off and on ...
maybe I/we can think of some quick snap on / off solution

and I do not mind the antenna dangling

please advise ...

thank you ...

Just curious, is money and time a factor for you? I'm sure it is, and I love the Solo, but the DJI Mavic (if it works as we hope) might just be a better solution.

I think they are in the general sense for everyone ...

but why do you mention time? how is that a factor in selecting a drone

money is a factor ... I would not be able to buy a new drone every month ... I just want to make the best decision possible ...

cheapest or more expensive are not necessarily the worst or the best ...

My fellow Flyer, be assured that your using the best drone "Solo" for the money!
Even if you spent twice the amount "I paid almost triple" you got the best tech. in the price range.

As i said, have a GREAT time...

The gimbal will remain an issue. Taking the legs off may save a little space but they afford some protection. You might want to look at the Karma, pretty slick fold up aircraft.

Those legs aren't made for many on/offs.

The threaded inserts are fragile and can come loose (there are two per leg).

Once you lose a single threaded insert, the leg won't easily stand up to even normal landings.

don´t go for karma, if you want to save on space - go for the Mavic

if you're backpacking with a tent etc
leave the laptop and solo at home
i lugged Solo through like a dozen cities in a short period of time...not fun.

if you have funds to do both asia and south america then you should consider the mavic or karma
karma if you aren't bringing another camera or mavic if space and weight is more important.
