Amazon offering drops and spills protection on motor pods

If you have a pod failure replacing a pod may not be the biggest issue? Don't they usually fail in flight. Wouldn't insurance on the Solo be a better expenditure?

spills and "drops" protection. If you have a crash or "drops" and breaks a motor pod then I would assume it would be a valid replacement claim. FYI just for giggles I checked out items and they offer it for the white ghosts but the entire package not just components.

Upon receiving warranty contract from SquareTrade it is clear they do not cover anything drone related. I contacted them directly to confirm and they do not cover such items. They were very nice and provided easy instructions to cancel and be refunded.

Shame on Amazon for actively promoting this on various drones and drone related items.

I think even if available the money would be better spent buying insurance on the Solo itself.

I bought a policy for $60.00 annually that covers the Solo and everything attached. If a motor pod goes it will probably be airborne at the time. If that is the case, the cost of one motor pod may be one of the least expensive items that needs replaced. Why not cover everything.

Hey Greg, can you share more details on your plan?

Thanks!

I insured with my carrier State Farm. It is a Personal Article (or some such) policy with a $50.00 deductible. $60.00 is the lowest amount they charge for a policy even though the actual cost per $100 is about $34.00 in my case. So one could insure a much more expensive rig for the same $60.00.

They asked for receipts for the items insured and the serial number of the Solo. So I listed the Solo, gimbal, Gopro, after market lens, micro SD, filters, leg extensions, balance kit.

With that insurance I am much more comfortable flying over open water or heavily wooded areas. Beats a tracker also in my opinion. Trackers and service are not cheap and if you need to use the tracker there is probably a good chance that the recovered UAV sustained some major damage.

So if I lose it all it will have cost $110.00 to replace it with a new setup.

Cool I appreciate you sharing. I will have to look into something similar. Is there a maximum claim amount within the first year or anything like that?

I did not ask about that. Can't Imagine they would be happy to see multiple claims per year. Don't plan on testing that, but if I lose one it will have been worth it and I am sure they will make good.
