So I have been doing a TON of research on what tablets would be best to view your video feed during flight. I have finally found a bunch of info. I couldn't really see my screen at all today in the direct sun, so It got me thinking maybe a different tablet would be better. So here are some interesting results of the brightness settings for the different tablets now. I didn't include any 10" except 1 (it's the brightest) Nokia Lumia, because I don't think they would fit in our controller.

I am including the links at the bottom if you care to see the reviews.

Hope this helps someone. Also I read that SOME Android devices when you set the Auto Brightness to ON in direct sun gets even brighter than on Max brightness. So try that if you are having issues with not being able to see the screen.

Scroll down to the middle of the page and the brightness levels are there

Sorry posted this twice.

Tab S is 546 and the Tab 4 is only 347 (that's the 7" tab 4)

I think I might go the Tab S route. How do you find it in direct sun with the brightness at max?

Good. But still needs sun shield.

Do you have one? Where did you get it?

Thanks for all that information gathering, Ryan. I have a Kindle HDX7, which has a great screen. However, it does not offer a lot of apps ( like the Solo app), but I've heard it can be installed manually, since it is an Android device. I'm going to try that one day soon in my spare time. For now I'm using my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, which has a VERY bright and VERY sharp screen. So far I'm completely content with it with the Solo, even in bright sun.

What ever happened to you making that CAD drawing and someone making one?

BTW.. THE Galaxy NOTE series of phones will go as bright as 750 nits in direct sun IF Auto brightness is on, which is insanely bright.

Let me know if he ever does.. I would be interested in contacting him to get one.

Thanks for sending them

I did my part. Send complete AutoCAD drawings and pictures. So up to him to make it :)
Could I ask you what you designed with the cad files. If you need something cut either on water jet or laser maybe I could be of help. I did not see any of the original conversation.

Just dimensioned out the Tab S so he could print a sunshade for it.

I now have an nVidia Shield and while it's not as bright as I'd like it to be, it's performance (latencey, smoothness, speed) I can report is better than all that I've tried:
Shield >Tab A 8">MemoPad.

For me, the MemoPad and Tab A are unusable, mostly because their video processing is too slow. The Shield also just feels crisp and I love it so far.
Just my $0.02.
