Suggestions for good places to fly in DC, VA, MD area

Looking for good areas to fly in the greater DC area.

Looking for tips on:

• Good non restricted areas
• Nice towers to call
• Information on towers that are not particularly helpful/cranky
• Any other helpful hints

Any information is much appreciated.

Thanks @BigTulsa I have. I was hoping for tips on flying outside the NDZ and apart from the conditions on the site, what other towers need to be contacted around small airports and heliports.

Only thing I would say as a non-resident of that area is if you are within 5 miles of a towered airport outside the outer ring of the full NDZ call that tower. As to the disposition of each obviously I wouldn't know. Maybe some DC area flyers could chime in.

I'm in Southern Maryland. Not too many (great) places to fly with Pax River and Webster field down here. I did get a couple of flights at Elk Neck State Park on the Eastern Shore. Airspace was clear and Park Ranger didn't have an issue.
