Solved. The GoProBlack needs to be set to 30FPS instead of 24 for the video to work.

Solved. I can make the GoPro record by pressing the record button manually if I stick my fingernail in the small bit that isn't obscured by the housing.

Thanks folks for the trips and suggestions offered. Looks like I'm good for a sortie.

I have a GoPro 3+ Black and could only get video feed if I turned on the GoPro, set it to Still Camera, and then connected it. It glitched out if I tried to switch between video and still while flying (lost video feed).
I found a post on another forum from about a year ago where someone had changed their video settings to 1080p, 60 fps, and med fov with good results. It worked for me! Now I have video and full control.
