Short answer - NO. It is not a supported camera. You need a 3+ Black or 4.
You supposedly can get a live video feed if you are are at firmware version V2x. With newer firmware, you won't even get that. No remote camera functions in any case...
You are stuck with starting the recording manually before take off, and stopping it when you land.

Only the 3 models mentioned provide full camera control through the app. Anything less than a 3+ Black and you won't have full camera control.

Technically, you don't *need* any apps to fly the Solo. However, you really do need to get the free 3DR Solo app from the Google Play store to get it setup and do the accelerometer and compass calibrations. The 3DR Solo app is also perfectly fine for flying and trying out the smart shots, etc. The Solex app is optional.
The Tower app and Solo simulator might also prove useful at some point.

I use a GoPro 3+ silver all the time, you will have to stop and start video and make sure the camera is set before you take off.

Thanks I just got to GoPro 3 + Black Edition now so I should be good
