Very poor range

I would start with the antennas. The Solos have their antennas in the legs. If you're using the stock antennas on the remote, point them downward (perpendicular to the bird). Fly out to 300 feet and look at your signal strength. If it's low regardless of antenna position, you'll probably have to open the transmitter/bird, and reseat the antenna wires. While it's possible to have a bad transmitter, more likely it is a bad connection.
