I haven't used my 3DR for a couple of years, so I decided to update the drone and the controller. After both controller and drone updated I found that the controller would not connect with the drone. So just short of setting it back to factory I tried to re pair the controller. It had me recalibrate the drone and all went well and now they communicate and is ready to fly.
