So, I'm seeing some things lately that have me wondering about integration opportunities with the Solo. The two that come immediately to mind are the Sentera dual 4K sensors (mapping and ag) and the new Sequoia multispec sensor (Micasense/senseFly), both of which are specifically engineered to mimic the GP form factor. I'm assuming neither have a 'Hero Bus' port, but I'm trying to figure out what the art of the possible might be with the Solo platform (gimbal or accessory bay). Any ideas, or comments?

Just found this re: Sequoia - shown on a Solo

the sequoia won't fit in the gopro gimbal, it doesn't have a herobus slot. it can fit in the static mount or can be mounted to the accessory bay.

as far as integration parrot has indicated that they are working on an integration solution for pixhawk and other flight controllers.

the sequoia uses wifi for all its functionality, but it does have a usb port. there isn't any documentation yet, so we don't know what we'll be able to do with that usb port. we just know that it uses PTP/PTP-IP.

micasense has another multi spectral camera, the RedEdge and it can be triggered via pwm or via mavlink (serial). hopefully the sequoia can do the same.

Work well with Solo

I took this from the micasense website...

"3DR Solo
Integration into the 3DR Solo platform is straightforward using the non-gimbal mount. An accessory mount will be available for Sequoia soon for easy mechanical integration with Solo. Also available will be a cable harness that connects to the Solo's accessory payload bay connector."

And from the Pix4D site...
"Sequoia fits on a standard GoPro mount, use the default GoPro frame and clamp to about 1/3rd of the sensor in order to be able to attach the cables.
Provide 5V 2A power to the sensor, either via a compatible battery pack or from the drone’s battery through a 5V to 2A regulator.
Stick the irradiance sensor on top of the drone. The camera must be solidly connected to a structure with known geometry (support article coming soon) in order to leverage the information provided by the irradiance sensor and its IMU.
For eBee integration: senseFly has already developed an adaptor. Contact senseFly for more information on the product availability.

For 3DR Solo and DJI Phantom integration: Micasense is currently working on integration kits, contact them for more information on product availability."

So I'm guessing that the stills above (posted by Rex Barlow) depict a prototype of the external battery variety. I'd hope the production integration was a bit less clunky.

i wonder if that cable harness will provide power only or serial as well. i know with the RedEdge mavlink integration requires some dronekit python code to be running onboard solo if you want to use solo's gps and send attitude data and trigger commands. i'm extremely interested in how the sequoia will integrate with solo.

Small bummer that they are using global shutter on all the individual band cameras and a rolling shutter on the RGB. Can deal with that in post, but not all processing software currently features rolling shutter adjustment.
