You rarely see me at odds with the FAA however I need to stomp my foot down on this one. The B4uFLY testing is only for iOS. Really- Apple.

Dear B4UFLY Beta Test Volunteer –

Thank you for volunteering to participate in the FAA’s beta test of B4UFLY, the FAA’s simple and easy-to-use smartphone app that unmanned aircraft operators may use to determine whether there are any restrictions or requirements in effect at the location where they want to fly. B4UFLY’s primary purpose is to promote safety and to increase situational awareness.

This past August, we announced the release of the beta version, and we are now adding testers from our waitlist to ensure we get input from as wide a pool of testers as possible. Here are some additional details on what to expect:

The beta version of B4UFLY is designed to work on iOS (Apple) devices only. If you signed up for the beta test and you do not have an iOS device, or if you want to opt out of the beta test for any reason, please send an email with the subject “Remove From Beta” to [email protected].

Within the next several hours, you will receive an email from Apple with the subject “TestFlight: You're invited to test B4UFLY.” NOTE: To avoid communications getting filtered into your junk email, we recommend adding "[email protected]" to your approved sender list.

Please follow the prompts in the email to download the app. NOTE! Beta test users will actually download and install two apps, TestFlight andB4UFLY. TestFlight is Apple’s beta platform which hosts B4UFLY and collects user feedback.

Once downloaded, open B4UFLY and watch the short tutorial for a basic overview of the app. More info about the app, supporting guidance and pertinent links may be found in the app’s “More” section.

Please note! For B4UFLY to work properly, your device must be running iOS 8 and Location Services must be enabled.

To submit feedback via email, please access the TestFlight app and click on the “send feedback” link. Feel free to attach a screen shot or two if it helps illustrate your thoughts or ideas.

The beta version of the app does not include all of the functionality envisioned for the full release. Beta user feedback and data will be essential to help us make final design decisions. Please give us your feedback! Try the app out and put it to the test. Your input will help us make improvements and enhancements to the app, both during the beta test and for the full release.

Additional information, including answers to frequently asked questions, are posted on our website at B4UFLY Smartphone App.

Thank You,
