Have to agree that would be the better method as well. I kind of expected it to work that way when I first tried an orbit. Being able to first set the center would also remove some reliance on maps for positioning.

I just bought an iPad Mini with cellular and signed up for T-mobile (within the iPad settings). In addition to 200MB/month free for life, they have a $10/5GB/150 days. I find that more than enough for pulling up maps during a shot... just have to be careful to turn off cellular for other apps.

I would be suspicious of a the antenna connections in solo since you mention losing connection during a hard maneuver. Did you silicone the uFL connectors?

I am exceptionally pleased with my Solo. So much so that I went ahead and bought 5 extra batteries, extra charger, back pack, and an iPad mini. Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

Mine did that once. I powered off everything, removed the GoPro and reattached making sure it was properly seated in the gimbal. It hasn't given me any trouble again.
