I bought a Hero 4 Black refurb from an eBay seller a while back and it had this freeing issue from day 1. Popping the battery out and in was the only way to get it to work again. Luckily the seller gave me a refund, and I bought another one for $150 on eBay, which is working fine so far.

Hero 3+ Silver is not compatible. Like you have found, you can stream video from it to your app, but cannot control recording. You'll have to manually hit Record on the GoPro prior to flying, and record the whole flight. You can still do smart shots and all, but it will not record separate video...

No. It is my understanding that the 3DR solo gimbal holds the code to control the GoPro Hero 3/4 cameras, and it isn't open source, so we likely wont be able to gain camera control with an aftermarket gimbal.

I'm using a Storm32 3 axis gimbal from Goodlucksell on Ebay. I'm able to control it with the standard Mavlink commands. Still need to get out and see how smartshots work with it though.

And the next hardest part is getting the cable back in...which I wasn't able to do when I tried.

Are there actually two full sets of blades? Looks like 5 blacks and 3 silvers. Maybe it's just the angle or light reflecting, but that would be nice to mention for those without such a keen eye ;)

I bought one, and it didn't charge me anything to ship it to Michigan. I guess I'll see what happens. It was something like $51 US dollars at a conversion rate of .77 to 1, or 1 to .77, however that works.

I certainly wasn't trying to say I got a better deal, so I don't know what you are trying to suggest. I would have bought one through the OPs link if I could have. I was simply saying it is a great deal, as I just paid more for a worse deal.

I'm not certain 'GoPro Certified' is actually part of GoPro. A great price either way though...I just paid $160 for as Hero 4 Black on eBay last week.

That looks great! Any chance you could upload the separate pieces at .stl files, at least for the shell? My print bed is fairly small, so I'm not able to print both halves of the shell full size at the same time.
