What is the real deal with the antenna orentation?

It has more to do with polarization than directional sensitivity. Stubby 2 dbi antennas like those on the controller & in the legs of the solo are what is known as 1/4 wave antennas with (near) vertical linear polarization. Their signal sensitivity is nearly spherically omnidirectional, i.e...

    Solo mod - Parrot Sequoia

The short answer is that there is, at least from the software perspective, but it won't be simple. There are free tools out there, but you'll have to piece them together because you're not going to find one free tool that does it all. There may be license limitations, even on the open source...

iOS Update with Multi Point Cable Cam, Save & Load Cables, Time Lapse & Free Look

Eric, I've had this problem, the first time it happened actually, when landing as you suggested. When the solo should've recognized ground and shut off the motors (i.e. It was on the ground), the props quickly accelerated and it proceeded to backflip. This happened faster than I could respond...

I've started a new thread on this topic, we should probably discuss over there and keep this thread on topic.

Problem: Solo flips on auto land

This issue came up in the 2.0 thread and I feel it warrants its own thread. My solo flips when using either RTH or the auto land feature initiated by hitting the Fly button. It's happened approximately 1 in 5 times that I've used the feature. The solo touches the ground, and when the props...

iOS Update with Multi Point Cable Cam, Save & Load Cables, Time Lapse & Free Look

I've had this problem ever since I got a replacement solo after a controller issue. I've been through several firmware restorations, 3 full sets of propellers, 4 support tickets, and support doesn't seem to be too interested other than to send me new props (and motors on the last ticket). At...

    Solo mod - Parrot Sequoia

I think we will see a lot more tools for this. The total parts cost on producing a product like this is not very high, I'd be surprised if it cost more than $150 for them to build. But with the cost savings that these tools can provide for a farmer and the fact that this is such a niche market...

    Solo mod - Parrot Sequoia

I hope they do go for less. I was inferring the cost from the other numbers on the page. $3,500 for Pix4D, $6,500 for Pix4D plus Sequoia. $6,500 - $3,500 = $3,000 ($3,500 if you add in the quoted $500 in savings).

    Solo mod - Parrot Sequoia

Looking to get into NDVI as a hobby, and I got excited about this for a minute. They are currently available for pre-order (available April 1). But at $3,000, I'm a little less excited. Pix4D (edited for accuracy)

    Terrain hugging coming

As someone who lives and fly's in the mountains and has a boat, I look forward to this feature **Much** more than the boat mode. I wonder, though, how this will play into maximum altitude. For instance, depending on where I take off from, I can easily take off and fly up to 400 feet, then fly...

    Peau lens comparison - 3.97mm vs 4.35mm

Edited to remove a link that I posted as it may detract revenue from a supporter of this site. I didn't think about it before posting, apologies to anyone who may have been concerned.

Internet access on a Wifi only tablet via phone

Do you need internet only for maps? If so, both Tower and the Solo app offer the ability to download maps for offline use. It's a little more involved in the tower app because you have to turn on the "Download Maps" button, but it's not hard. If you need new maps in the field, you can tether via...

    I'm building a car charger & I've got a question

Two reasons actually. As MachWun said, I'm bypassing quite a bit of inefficiency. Using an inverter you go from 12VDC >> 120VAC >> 16.8 VDC, this way I'm going straight from 12VDC >> 16.8VDC, and using less of my car battery to do it. Secondly, I already have the $29 inverter and it's a noisy...
