Could be a bad hdmi ribbon cable/connector. What resolution are you using on the go pro? Try lowering it if you're running a high res. Try different turn on sequences for the drone, controller and go pro.

Try the Solex app. It's still being updated and supports newer devices and Android versions

What device and Android version are you running? Some users are reporting that the Solo app doesn't work on newer android versions.

Get some Alfa antennas. And upgrade your wifi card in the transmitter for even more range.

The 4 has better specs. In 4k the 3 tops out at 15fps while the 4 does 30fps. In 1080 the 3 does up to 60fps and the 4 does up to 120fps (better for slo-motion) The 3 should be enough if you mainly plan to shoot in 1080. They both work with the Solo. Me personally, I'd pay a little more for...
