GoPro president, Tony Bates, announced that the company is working on a brand new mobile video editing app that will allow users to trim and share their epic GoPro footage directly from their phone.

The app is expected to be released by the end of the summer and is currently undergoing final development and testing.

If you recall, GoPro released the HERO+ LCD camera which was the first GoPro to feature on-camera editing. Users are able to trim videos using the LCD screen and then share the edited clips to their phone. Now with the new editing app expected to be released, all GoPro owners will be able to edit their footage without the need to upload to their computer or use a 3rd party app.

Not much information has been released as to the extent of what you can do with the app but my guess is that it will be similar to GoPro Studio. You should be able to select and trim the clips you want to use, drop them on to a timeline, add music and then export the final edit so you can share it on social media directly from your phone. They might even have pre-made templates which would be sweet!

I have to agree that uploading hours and hours of raw footage from the camera to the computer and then setting aside a few more hours to sift through it and then put together an edit is extremely time consuming and not something I get particular excited about. GoPro Studio does make it super easy with their templates though.

Having the mobile editing app will allow you to trim the clips on the fly and probably increase the likelihood of footage getting posted for everyone to see instead of being left to die (the latter is what typically happens to my footage! Sad, I know.).

With that said, the best solution that is starting to come to surface is automatic video editing. Nick Woodman did mention that ultimately he would like a cloud-based service that would automatically create a highlight reel for every GoPro Fanatic. Now we’re talking!!

This might be the reason Solo's gimbal is not out yet ....HMMMMMMMMMM

Haven't used it with my aerial footage but I got a year free of magisto from San disk with a sd card and it actually does a good job with video and pics from my s6. Cool little app honestly, kinda cheating but may be worth a try one of these days and takes 5 minutes to customize with music and themes.

Sorry, but I do not see the connection. What does an app have to do with the gimbal?

To be honest I think we're trying to justify the delay with obvious releases or things we see but it's simply not done. Probably due to somebody just being behind schedule whether hardware or software it's not a conspiracy or any other product release, they just were wrong on what it would take to have probably the same departments that made solo turn around and produce the gimbal. So solo setback just pushed the gimbal plus you add in it being summer and everybodies vacations since their lives don't stop for us and it's just late. I'm hoping and getting annoyed as well but I think we're thinking too much into things here.

The GoPro 5 has been in the works for over a year.. and the delay in that was announced quite some time ago.

Assuming you believe 3DR (and I do). The gimbal delay has nothing to do with GoPro. No justification on the part of 3DR either (other than they weren't happy with it as it was, and had found a better outcome with different weighting) but they needed to put that update into production. They explained it all in great detail here..

Yea I saw that I'm just saying basically it's not gopro 5 or anything other companies are doing it's just taken longer to get right than they thought. This article is this last delay but not the first so it's a bunch of issues put together is really what got us to this point.

The delays always to make improvements right (wink wink). I mean what else could they really say. Ah we're going on a drinking binge a while or were working on marketing to make you want it more. I'm sure there's plenty of reasons like the one post mentioning equipment failure to lightening but the stories still going to be making improvement when we see it cause it sounds good and if improving at all is basically true.lol

Over promised - under delivered AND 3DR took home the cash. Colin did a fantastic job!

When is Solo II being released?
