Solo Hackability?

Hi all,

Im new to drones, but im a chronic tinkerer. My initial thoughts were to scratch build a vehicle that would accept an RPi to tinker with some autonomous flying using Python. However, some research suggests that a Solo (with some modifications) would be a relatively inexpensive way to get started.

Am i wrong in my thinking? Any Pitfalls with this approach? Any good resources you could point me to?

There is a sub-forum here for dev type efforts...not that it's active as of late, but maybe a better resource to your question on usage of RPi. But yeah, Solo is Ardupilot...hack away.
