Read a little bit, but those one need need to have Linux or Python installed to use this tool?

Or, you could probably just install a linux OS in a VM, which is what I will be attempting later since I use VirtualBox for all sorts of stuff.
Don't just start mucking around. There's a lot to read and understand before attempting to do anything here. It's for developers and not your average consumer. A factory reset should undo any potential damage done, but I would backup the partitions on Solos flashdrive as the very first step before altering anything.
Eventually you can create your own custom smartshots, or so the docs say...
