Yes, it powers fine. If you put the GP in that has a battery that is not fully charged, you will not see much of a charge increase by end of flight. I think it probably applies just enough amperage to power the GP without draining the battery. But I wouldn't want more than that as it would have even more adverse effect on flight times.

Lot's of people waiting on 3DR>B&H to start sending Gimbals.
Yes, Would suggest a fully charged battery on GP, for the reasons you mentioned " Battery drain on Solo.
