flying without cell reception

Hey guys! so i'm looking to do some offshore flying and taking aerial videos of our boat while we fish. i was wondering if the solo would be able to fly whenever there is no cell reception 50+ miles offshore? anyone have experience? also, it would be on a moving boat for takeoff so would the solo even allow for takeoff?

You don't need cell reception to fly. I don't think you will be able to arm and fly off the boat.

David is right. No cell coverage needed, but Solo probably won't arm while moving.
If you install the Pixhawk 2.1 (AKA green cube) you will be able to load Arducopter Master (firmware) on it and disable those pre-arm checks.
There are many threads on "boat mode" you can search in this forum.

Thanks for the info: Need to order "Green Cube" ! Has it been fully tested by anyone?
