We, as a society, have lost the notion that just because something is possible doesn't mean it should or needs to be done. And this is leading directly to the necessity for governments regulate more and more aspects of our lives. And when pushed to that point, legislation will always err on being too restrictive than not enough.

As my wife, who grew up in the Soviet Union, says: societies get the governments they deserve.
