Hawaii with a Solo and a Motorcycle

I think that might've ended in a motorcycle wreck. ;)

Hawaii with a Solo and a Motorcycle

Wow, I wish I could live there 4 years... or 4ever... Not an expert on these but I used the SL Neutral Start (GoPro 5800K) preset for this video. Even Maui looks bland on a GoPro without color correction... It is amazing- I focused too much on the ride and probably missed some good stops like...

Hawaii with a Solo and a Motorcycle

All right, I'm retiring now: Oahu and Maui. I really wanted to get aerial footage at Haleakala, but apparently that's illegal cause it's a national park. It was a little challenging to find safe places to set up the drone since the roads are so winding with trees and mountains nearby (esp...

Pacific Coast with a Solo and a Motorcycle

Yeah, I'm no good at color correction so I used a preset that probably overdid it. With the Solo, I tested it pretty thoroughly and if you push it past a comfortable speed (say, 30 mph with a 10 mph headwind) it would start to drop. Though there is a 3DR services update to try out...

Pacific Coast with a Solo and a Motorcycle

Pretty much. Had a quick routine, stop, set up the drone, send it to a safe point, set a Follow mode and go. (have to change wp_nav_speed in Tower every time too, a little annoying) Then when the battery got low or the terrain changed, pull over, land and pack up. Travelled with 4 batteries total.

I got it to 40 mph reliably, after tweaking wp_nav_speed in Tower. The caveat is, if you have a headwind the Solo will start to drop altitude when it exceeds its max horizontal speed. Oh, I did speed up some of the footage but that's probably obvious.

3DR Announces Android App v2.4 out in "few weeks"

Don't care about those 2 features, but it is a bad omen. And who knows what this update may break with that developer gone. What I do hope they give us is Follow Me that adjusts altitude like the iOS version.

Follow Me at high speed - SOLVED

Different issue... The altitude drop is because the Solo Follow algorithm prioritizes speed over altitude and I'm modding the max speed in Tower to get it closer to 40. Once you get to around 40, or less than that with a headwind, the Solo will start to drop since it's surpassed its maximum...

Follow Me at high speed - SOLVED

Without an iPhone I can definitively say it prioritizes speed over altitude... at 35 mph with no wind or a tailwind, yes it should be fine. I think 40 mph with no wind, or less with a headwind, is where the Solo starts to drop. I could post footage later. I have an Android... looking online my...

Follow Me at high speed - SOLVED

I'm really, really starting to hate this forum. The drones are already semi-intelligent. You push forward on the stick, it moves forward and maintains its altitude. The drone knows its altitude and how much to increase throttle to maintain it. In Follow mode, this should apply as well. Instead...

Follow Me at high speed - SOLVED

The part where speed or follow distance is prioritized over altitude, which could cause problems when the altitude reaches zero.

Follow Me at high speed - SOLVED

Update: Wind is a big factor in whether or not the Solo will crash while following. I had a 10 mph northward wind. Set max speed in Tower to 1800 cm/s. When going south (against the wind), when I got past around 33 mph the Solo would rapidly lose altitude and I had to stop. When going north...

Follow Me at high speed - SOLVED

Update: Finally tried modifying the nav speed myself. Had good luck with 1500 cm/s (33.5 mph). Also tried 1700 cm/s (38 mph). Was pretty successful but dangerous. With leash when I actually got it up to that speed it started to lose altitude so I kept a close eye on it. Once I stopped it would...
