I've dealt with Electronic Goldmine a couple of times, for some odd items. I tinker a lot on a variety of things, they've had stuff that will work on the cheap and not being knock-off crap from china. Not a paid endorsement, just passing along an obscure find.

Seems the local surplus business model has died with Radio Shack... In Houston I have one surplus dealer convenient to me, but they mainly have crap and seems their pricing is random from one visit to another. Fry's is another crap hole, better off buying directly from china with what they offer. In a pinch I'll deal locally, but only in a pinch....
Just wanted to post a source for others searching for odd/obscure surplus electronic components sourced in the USA. I'm sure there are other domestic sources, feel free to post your finds...
