Scientists can now make lithium-ion batteries last a lifetime

I wonder how many battery companies would build a product that they would only sell once of, though? They make a lot of money because we have to continually buy new ones. I imagine these would cost quite a bit. Really cool discovery though.

Sometime in the future there will be a tipping point for raw materials. There will always be an opportunist to fulfill the task, then the others will concede. Or the politicians will realize their money tree is dying and then look for another revenue source.

I've always liked the statement "to large to fail", talking of the auto makers back in 2008. So I guess Tesla was too small to succeed...
