If I try to modify hostapd.conf it reverts back to a factory default config file.

And running md5sum /etc/hostapd.conf > /etc/hostapd.conf.md5sum makes no difference.
It still goes back to factory default hostapd.conf after a reboot.
I'm trying to modify the file on only the controller.
How does this work and what am I missing?
Is there a way I can do this and get it to actually save the config?
I don't want to factory default it. or the copter.

Thanks!

Doesn't work either:

root@3dr_controller:/etc# md5sum /etc/hostapd.conf /etc.hostapd.conf.md5
1e614b1ae62fdca251e70b4fd764f2a8 /etc/hostapd.conf
e2c91ef7338e03915680ed7042f9682a /etc.hostapd.conf.md5

oops...
I see a typo..
Trying again...
Hopefully that's it!

Got it!
Just stupid typos on my end.
As well as one of the posts I was reading.

What is the reason for modifying the hostapd.conf?

All kinds of reasons if you want to tinker with the wireless settings
and make it work differently than it does by default.
Or have the drone and/or controller connect to an external wireless network for any reason.
