since I have go pro 3 sliver I can't use shutter controls. I cut a hole on the gimbal so I don't have to carry a screw driver to start and stop recording. I don't see upgrading to a 4 anytime soon.

You lost me on that one. Maybe post some pics to show us what you did. Also, welcome to the forum.

The go pro 3 silver plus recording needs to be manually started. The gimbal shell makes you use a screw driver to do this. I cut a hole over the record button.

Alternative solution: Just leave your GoPro in "One Button Mode", so that it starts recording automatically as soon as you turn it on. No need to press the shutter button then.

The plastic around the gimbal that covers the record button on the gopro has enough give that you can press it very easily. I do it all the time.

i tried one button mode and to be honest, i ended up with a lot more video then i need because sometimes it is just sitting there waiting for gps.
